Measuring statistical learning by eye-tracking

چکیده
Abstract Statistical learning—the skill to pick up probability-based regularities of the environment—plays a crucial role in adapting environment and learning perceptual, motor, language skills healthy clinical populations. Here, we developed new method measure statistical without any manual responses. We used Alternating Serial Reaction Time (ASRT) task, adapted eye-tracker, which, besides measuring reaction times (RTs), enabled us track learning-dependent anticipatory eye movements. found robust, interference-resistant on RT; moreover, movements were even more sensitive measures this task. Our provides way apply widely ASRT task operationalize populations where use tasks is hindered, such as Parkinson’s disease. Furthermore, it also enables future basic research version predictive processing.

The two indices that have been proposed for quantifying the accuracy of smooth-following eye movements are shown to be interchangeable. This algebraic fact will permit comparability of values between laboratories only if workers who employ the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) as their index measure S and N as the total signal and noise power, respectively, in the eye movement record.
متن کاملMeasuring torsional eye movements by tracking stable iris features
We propose a new method to measure torsional eye movements from videos taken of the eye. In this method, we track iris features that have been identified as Maximally Stable Volumes. These features, which are stable over time, are dark regions with bright borders that are steep in intensity. The advantage of Maximally Stable Volumes is that they are robust to nonuniform illumination and to larg...
متن کاملEye-Tracking Method’ Usage for Understanding the Cognitive Processes in Multimedia Learning
Introduction: Designing multimedia learning environments should consist of the evidence-based study and principals about the human learning process. Eye tracking is a way based on the learner processing of learning materials which presented in multimedia learning environments. The aim of the study was to examine the use of the eye-tracking method to investigate the cognitive processes in m...

English] Activating student knowledge (ASK) before receiving learning materials improves their learning outcome (Tormey and LeDuc (2014)). We implement ASK through priming by using two versions of the same pretest in a dual eye-tracking study in a MOOC context. We propose an additional activity, a collaborative concept-map, based on the MOOC lecture to enable the students to reflect on what the...
متن کاملStudying Learning in Games Using Eye-tracking
Abstract We report results from an exploratory study using eye-tracking recording of information acquisition by players in a game theoretic learning paradigm. Eye-tracking is used to observe what information subjects look at in 4x4 normal-form games; the eye-tracking results favor sophisticated learning over adaptive learning and lend support to anticipatory or sophisticated models of learning ...
